Extraordinary Qualities

As we worked to create the vision for Sugarloaf's future, we outlined the characteristics that give Sugarloaf its unique place in the ski industry. Preservation and enhancement of these extraordinary qualities will be paramount in all of our future developments.

Singular Geography
4,237‘ high. There is a simple satisfaction when standing at the summit knowing you may very well be the highest person on skis East of the Rockies, and a visceral thrill everytime you round “Oh My Gosh Corner”.  These simple experiences remind us that Sugarloaf is singular.  It delivers unique, only-gotten-here experiences.

True Skier’s Mountain
Sugarloaf is the real deal.  2,820’ of continuous vertical drop. Lift-serviced above tree-line snowfields. The only homologized downhill run in the East. Home to World Cup Championships and Olympic Gold Medalists. Hardcores spend the day skiing boundary-to-boundary, creating their own trails in fresh powder and humbling themselves on White Nitro. Novices can experience the thrill of a lift to the summit with a 360° view that will take their breath away, all the while knowing the journey down will be over three miles of green trails. It’s a mountain that delivers world-class skiing and honestly earned bragging rights.

Unique Culture
Sugarloaf is home to a passionate, spirited and down-to-earth cast of characters. Their stories are as varied as the places they come from, but they are united by a common passion for great skiing and a love of the mountain. It may be the deep Maine woods, the crisp mountain air or the warm lull which follows a hard day on the slopes, but something intangible took hold decades ago and stuck around for the good of all.

Maine at its Purest
There are fewer and fewer places left in New England that remain relatively untouched. Places that lift your soul, clear your head, and completely take you away from it all. Sugarloaf is one of them. It is unmistakably Maine, with its awe inspiring vistas, pureness of untamed wilderness, and a way of living humbly and happily with your fellow rusticators. Working hard, playing harder and staying in tune with the way life should be—Sugarloafers are all Mainers at heart.

Village Life
Few ski mountains in New England have a true village and Sugarloaf’s is the only one that was organically grown—not conceived on a developer’s napkin. It has a variety of shops, venues and watering holes catering to a diversity of tastes and may be the only village in Maine where you don’t need to be 3rd generation to be considered a local.

World Renowned
There are places you visit. Places you work, play and eat. And then there are places you take with you wherever you go. For its skiing, for its history, and for its vibe, Sugarloaf’s reputation is known throughout the world. That ubiquitous blue triangle is found around the globe. Brought there by loyalists who feel compelled to spread the gospel. The Sugarloaf brand has a stature that many organizations strive for, and few attain— sterling reputation and devoted following of loyalists.
